Portraits of GuitarArt -
The Gretsch Foundation donated 5 guitars to the Iowa RockNRoll Music Association to
sponsor the first annual Guitar Art in the Schools contest. The 5 guitars were placed in
Schools in Sioux City West, West Des Moines Valley, Marion Linn-Mar, Shenandoah High
School and Decorah High School by IRRMA Board Members.
The Guitars were Decorated
by the students and returned to the IRRMA by the end of the 2004 School Year. They were then
displayed at the IRRMA Museum in Arnolds Park during the Summer and an
independent panel of judges chose the Winner.
Savannah Folk Music Society and fourteen talented Savannah artists
volunteered to paint, sculpt and carve on these instruments to create beautiful and striking works of art. They will be on exhibit
at various art galleries around town in the weeks leading up to the Festival. The pieces will then be offered in a live auction during the
Savannah Folk Music Festival's opening event, the "Folkfest in City Market" on the evening of Friday, October 8, 2004 at 8:30PM and at
the Sunday main concert on October 10, 2004 at 3:45PM.
